Get Involved – Study Series: Crazy Love

On Tuesday the 30th June 2009, the youth study group will begin reading through and discussing the book ‘Crazy Love – Overwhelmed by a Relentless God’ by Francis Chan, pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California.

The purpose of this post is not to provide a review, however having read it previously, and having spoken to others that have also read it, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. In it, Chan writes to open our eyes to the Creator God and His glory, power and love, in the hope that it would elicit the proper response in us (to find out what this is, read the book). His writing style is easy and relaxed, whilst containing intensely challenging questions and thoughts. If you feel dissatisfied with your ‘religion’ or your relationship with Jesus, or even life itself – read this book. If you are not awed when you think of God – read this book. If you feel that we just aren’t quite getting it – read this book. In fact, read this book whatever your situation. Even if you think everything is A-Okay.

The book itself is short (a mere 175 pages), and indeed it would be possible for some to pick up a copy and be finished with it in no time at all. However, I’d invite you to spend a bit more time on it than that…

Over the next twelve weeks, those involved in the youth study on Tuesdays will be reading through one chapter of the book each week and meeting to discuss and wrestle with our thoughts on that chapter, aided by the videos of the companion DVD. Each week, I will create a blog post pertaining to that week’s chapter, to give space for further discussion from the young people, the wider Church, and anyone else who wishes to join in.

I pray that God would reveal Himself to us as a Church, and as individuals, in a most amazing way such that our lives are transformed as a result.
