Making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland

Songs of Ascent, part VII – The Lord my Restorer

The Songs of Ascent are a collection of Psalms (running from Psalm 120 through to Psalm 135) which pilgrims sang as they travelled towards Jerusalem and up to the temple. In Psalm 126, the Psalmist’s lament is framed with a remembrance of the Lord miraculously restoring his people from captivity and an anticipation that this same God is mighty to save.

In the seventh of a fifteen part series, Andy Evans asks whether there is a place for lament in the light of the cross and our great salvation. We see that the Psalmist exhorts believers in times of trial to remember the cross and look forward to King Jesus’ return, confident that the Lord is indeed our Restorer.
